Tigers nab Fontainebleau 2028 left-hander Tanner Conley

MANDEVILLE—The Jay Johnson Revenge Tour continues.

Making his official visit to Tiger Stadium a week ago when LSU took on Clemson, Fontainebleau High junior left-hander Tanner Conley announced his verbal commitment to the LSU Baseball team.

The 6-3, 190-pound Conley is the fourth commitment of the 2028 class for Jay Johnson and his staff. Conley chose the Tigers over offers from Ole Miss, Auburn and Arkansas.

Projected to compete for time in the starting rotation, Conley had a 1.11 ERA for Fontainebleau last season. In 63.1 innings of work, he struck out 105 batters and walked only 20.  He also had a solid season at the plate, hitting .390 with a pair of home runs, 29 RBI to go along with 13 doubles.

“Tanner is advanced for his age. Easy repeatable left-handed delivery. Fastball 86-91 with good arm side run. Hitters don’t get a early look at the ball. He can spin the baseball. Lands breaking ball for strikes. Change-up needs to be used more after High School. Chance to become solid starter in college and beyond.”

A lifelong LSU baseball fan, Conley initially thought he was going to take all his visits in his recruiting process.  That changed during his official visit to Baton Rouge.

“The visit really made it hard to not commit and to stop from taking all my other official visits,” he said. “The biggest reason for that is how the coaching staff treated me while I was there for my trip. They were all super nice and very easy to talk to.

“(LSU Recruiting Coordinator Josh Jordan) and the rest of the staff just did a really good job of selling me on the fact that LSU wants me. Mix that with being able to stay close to home and it just reiterated the fact that LSU is an insane place to be able to play baseball and I’m going to get to do that. I was always a big Gavin Dugas guy growing up. He was a great player.”

Conley said he will not be taking any more visits to any other schools and his recruitment process is officially over.
